bmurator Canadian Melodic Black Metal! This is the very first EP from these guys and - WoW - what a start! I just have to get the next installment asap! I know... I am far behind but better late than never! Highly recommended!

David Fischer The piano intro on Dawn... Sons of Death is one of the most addictive pieces of music I've heard recently. Short and focused EP, a really good listen!
Addendum: a worthy harbinger of the glory which was to follow with the release of Beyond the Grasp of Mortal Hands! Favorite track: Dawn... Sons of Death.

Ippocalyptica When a debut EP is this good, you have but no choice to stand up and take notice. This is melodic black metal that adeptly navigates variable musical terrain, both beautifully introspective and powerfully kinetic in equal measure, and complete with musicianship that is very accomplished and made all the better by its restraint. Arguably most impressive of all is the genuinely icy atmosphere of A Spire Silent, something I have not experienced since Immortal’s At the Heart of Winter. Buy it. Favorite track: Dawn... Sons of Death.

1.
As blades this air, rips upon my skin The cold hush that’s fallen here, belies the coming flames of battle’s fire, from within, soon to rise, soon unleashed, as morning’s light takes hold, we loose our frenzied cries! Echoes! Of life resound upon this battleground. Massacre, slaughter, no mercy Shall be found. Borne on wings of unbound rage Too long repressed, too long restrained, we Sons of Death arrive to slaughter no man shall be saved In ecstasy, this savagery, delivered uninhibited for what is best in life is surely to destroy! With ragged breath I turn upon this field where battle wanes A sea of ruined flesh annoints the fouled soil trembling, still, as final calm, descends upon these wretched slain This expanse once ashen, bare, now adorned in violent shades of death! The screams of vanquished men their cries of desperate fear endless, once, they bathed the land yet even now they fade as fury dies, behind it leaves a yearning hunger, unappeased how many lives must I claim to fill this growing emptiness?

Silence! Approaching storm, breaks! crimson air choking me as death awakes Witness! My brothers die Pain! filling me, changing me mindless rage No control, mind is shaking, hated men, before me quaking, pathetic lives, mine for taking, by my hand i watch them breaking! Shackles forged in blood by our deadly revelry what fools we have become thinking we were free drink deep this cup of hate paths no longer seen mere echoes in the wind all will cease to be Hate, burning soul ablaze suffocating, all consuming cry of rage Kill! my sacrifice this day blood for altars raised to nothing endless pain No control mind is screaming cannot sleep, see them bleeding frenzied wrath, no more feeling between my teeth I hear them weeping Shackles forged in blood by our deadly revelry what fools we have become thinking we were free drink deep this cup of hate paths no longer seen mere echoes in the wind all will cease to be Why is this, for which we fought? All for nothing, all for naught? Cruel fate, stark beauty so i summon nihility Why is this, for which we fought? All for nothing, soon forgot? Cruel fate, dead beauty, take my soul and set me free Why is this for which we fought, all for nothing, all for naught, cruel fate embraces me take my soul nihility!

A path, ever bending In shadows, unending Lays now ahead on this spire, ascending to wreathed peak unseen, this monolith, mighty, invites one to dare, to climb One by one,My feet draw me on, The slope ever steepens, With each footfall gone, Silent this trail, Yet thought, silence breeds, Turbid mind, Troubled; I climb Black are my thoughts and black is this spire this mountain, my anvil my thoughts are as fire. What shall be wrought when summit is reached? What shall await atop silent peak? Chilling snow, fully encompassed trees are as wraiths, forms twist and fade now left behind, above the tree line a face hewn of stone; onwards I climb! My body protests but pain holds no weight the path here is sheer the summit draws near. In ruin this slope, echoes borne of stone among this dead rock I am alone! A clarity of vision and mind unclouded grant unto me The peak yields solace and wisdom unbound yet given not freely to walk in the shade of this mountain dark a mortal forge beaten and hammered to form new perspective new strength from powers old taken from this welcome cold atop this spire silent!
